UK economic growth slows to 0.4% in first quarter

News update from CFM (UK) Ltd: The UK's economic growth slowed in the first quarter of the year, hit by a drop in manufacturing and construction output, according to ONS figures.GDP grew by 0.4% between January and March, down from 0.6% in the fourth quarter, and on an annual basis, growth was 2.1%. Part of the slowdown was due to a sharp fall in construction output, which dropped 0.9% in the first quarter. Production output declined by 0.4% while the service sector grew by 0.6%. The ONS said it had no evidence for or against the slowdown being linked to the EU referendum on 23 June.
